The Construction Permit Process
What Do We Do?
The Mantua Township Construction Department ensures that all construction work in the Township complies with the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code.
Zoning Permits
In New Jersey, a zoning permit is required before a construction permit can be issued for most projects. This includes additions, sheds over a certain size or height, decks, pools and pool fences, new homes, generators, and many other types of improvements.
A zoning permit confirms that your proposed project complies with Mantua Township land use and zoning ordinances.
Essentially, any project that modifies, alters, or adds to the exterior of your home—or changes the use or layout of your property—will require zoning approval before construction can begin.
Construction Permits
Planning a project and unsure whether you need a permit? Contact the Mantua Township Construction Department. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will help determine if a construction permit is required and guide you through every step of the permit process.
The Township of Mantua proudly provides construction services to the Borough of Wenonah through a shared services agreement.
Inspections
Required inspections are already included in your permit fee—there is no additional cost to schedule them.
An open permit can delay the sale of your home, prevent you from obtaining future permits, and create unnecessary complications with your property records. Note: No Housing Certificates will be issued if a property has remaining open permits.
Once your construction permit has been issued, it is your responsibility to contact our office to schedule all required inspections.
Once again, inspections are included in your permit fee—please schedule them promptly to ensure your permit is properly closed!
